Washington DC area’s largest bean-to-bar chocolate factory, crafting fine single-origin chocolate in Northern Virginia. Inspired by cacao and the rainforests and rivers that nurture it, we make chocolate that is bold in flavor, ethically sourced, and passionately made. We work directly with cacao growers and import our cacao via wind powered sailing ships whenever possible, ensuring traceability while reducing our environmental impact. A love for connecting people with the planet, nourishment, and the sweet moments seeded through sharing chocolate is at the heart of everything we do.

Initiatives & Action!
Sail transport is a highly effective way to reduce carbon emissions by up to 99% compared to conventional cargo transport. At River-Sea, we proudly imported cacao beans for our chocolate on the very first Sail Cargo shipment allowed in the USA in over a century. Currently, there are only four sail cargo ships in the world, and we are committed to funding the restoration and construction of more sail vessels to expand routes and continue reducing our carbon footprint.
